Beef/Chicken Koththu



Hi friends, I am going to show you how to make koththu roti. This is a very popular dish in Sri Lanka. Mostly this is made in small restaurants or hotels by the road. It’s a very spicy and yummy dish. You can adjust the spice according to your taste. Most of the foreigners love it as well as the Sri Lankans. It’s a bit difficult dish but worth it. I am sure you all will enjoy this. My boys love it.

Ingredients

Plain roti made for 500g flour.
Ginger paste.
Garlic paste.
Few curry leaves.
150 carrots grated.
150 leeks cut finely.
2 big onions cut finely.
2 tomatoes cut into small cubes.
2 eggs.
200g Beef or chicken curry cooked with gravy.
Turmeric powder.
Salt.
Chillie powder.

Method

Cut the roti into small strips.

Divide the roti as well as the vegetables into 2 portion .
Heat oil in a flat tawa. ( do not use non stick)
Add ¼ tsp ginger paste, ¼ garlic paste and some curry leaves.
Fry for 1 minute.
Add the onions and fry till it becomes soft.

And half of the carrot and fry till it becomes soft.

Add half of the leeks and fry for 2 minutes.


Add ¼ tsp salt, pinch of turmeric powder and ¼ tsp chillie powder.


Fry for 1 minute.

Beat 1 egg and add to the mixture.

Stir quickly and mix with the vegetables.

Add half of the roti.

Half of the beef (cut into small pieces) and beef gravy.

Half of the tomatoes and mix well.

There is a special piece of gadget to mix the koththu.
But do not worry you can use a spoon and mix it.
Mix well till all the ingredients are combined.

Serve while the koththu is hot.

It’s really yummy.
My boys love the koththu which I make at home with less oil and according to their taste.
