Dumplings with Beef (Thakadi)



This is a very famous dish among the Sri Lankan Muslims. It’s very easy to serve. I am sure you and your family will Love this dish. Try and see. All the best.


Ingredients 

Curry 
400g-500g beef or chicken. 
2 tbsp oil.
Few mustard seeds.
¼ tsp fenugreek seeds.
1” cinnamon.
Few curry leaves.
1-2 cardamom.
1 tsp garlic paste.
½ tsp ginger paste.
½ a big onion.
1 tomato.
2 tsp chillie powder.
2 tsp curry powder (Sri Lankan).
½ tsp turmeric powder.
1 tsp salt.
2 cups coconut milk.

Dough
3 cups rice flour.
1½-2 cups grated coconut.
½ tsp salt.
Hot water.

Method

Curry
Add the chillie powder, curry powder, turmeric powder and salt to the beef.

Marinate the beef for half an hour.
Heat oil in a pan.
Add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, cinnamon, cardamom, curry leaves and stir for few minutes.
Add ginger and garlic paste and stir for 1 minute.
Add the onion and sir for a few minutes.

Add the tomatoes and stir well till the oil separates.

Add the beef and mix well.

Add 2-3 cups of water and cover and cook till the meat is done.

If you are using beef use a pressure cooker.
Once it’s cooked add the coconut milk.

And keep aside.

Dough
Mix the flour, salt and the coconut.

 Add boiling water little by little and make a dough.

 Let it cool down for 15 minutes.
 Make balls a little bigger than the size of a lime.

 And give a small press from your three middle fingers.


 Put a soft cloth to your steamer and keep the dumplings on top of each other.

Steam for about 20-30 minutes.
Take it out of the steamer.

Add the beef curry (the dumplings should not stick to each other) and allow it to boil for 10 minutes in moderate flame.


 If it’s too dry add more coconut milk or hot water. Add salt if necessary.
Your Dumplings are ready to be served.


Note
It might be too spicy for some. You can reduce the chillie powder from 2 tsp to 1 tsp.
